The course features numerous water hazards, deep groundcover and a mixture of long, short and multi-angled dogleg holes, providing a unique challenge for any golfer. The course is designed in such a way that half of the course is situated on an uphill and the other half on a downhill slope. The first half of this course works its way up to a secluded natural valley in the northeastern part of the site, and the finishing holes work back down to the spacious, clubhouse setting. A stream meanders throughout many of the golf holes, forcing players to accurately place their golf shots to avoid this natural water hazard. Deep, flat bottom bunkers surround many of the playable areas, collecting errant tee shots and approach shots to the green.

This challenge takes advantage of dramatic terrain by playing largely through single corridor valleys offering elevated tees and fairways surrounded by native slopes. Large areas of turf and wide fairways, punctuated by strategic bunkering, contrast with tall slopes of native plants and trees. Dramatic long views into valley corridors, often including serene lakes, give the golfer a feeling of being surrounded by nature. Hainan/Haikou (Mission Hills)

Blackstone

China’s premier tournament venue.  This 7,777-yard core golf course covering 350-acres (2,125 Chinese Acre) weaves through a striking landscape of mature trees, expansive lakes and wetlands punctuated by black lava rock. A world-class tournament course, it offers spectacular spectator viewing, especially on the final holes where one must negotiate a series of risk-versus-reward opportunities.

Sandbelt Trails

Australian Sandbelt meets lava rock landscapePatterned after the strong courses of the Australian Sandbelt region, this 7,325-yard course features large bunkers dominated by high sand flashes and crisp, thick lips rising above the fairway and green surfaces. Eucalyptus trees evoke the Australian landscape and transitional edges blend into the landscape, creating a natural feel to the large expanse of turf.

The Vintage

Old world sensibilities in a stone walled setting.  Patterned after courses built at the turn of the century, this 7,363-yard course is a blend of carefully routed holes with as little disturbance to the existing terrain as possible. It has a distinct, natural feel, mixed with feature work that utilizes odd, sometimes geometric shapes and quirky features found on old courses. This includes abrupt mounds, deep pot bunkers, square edges, blind shots and both small and large greens with wicker basket pins.

Stepping Stone

The first short par three course is a true pitch and putt course but with dramatic islands of turf surrounded by lava rock and large sand expanses. This course will play through, and seamlessly blend in with the native surrounds of black rock and thick vegetation.

Lava Fields

While similar in many respects to the Tournament Course with its irregular lines of turf and wild bunkering, Lava Fields presents far less tree cover. There is a feel of expanse that creates a big look and the black rock and sand dominate the landscape like no other course in the world. At 7400 yards, it too is capable of hosting significant events.

Meadow Links

Based upon the traditional US Open courses of the eastern United States, this layout features lay-of-the land sensibilities and somewhat geometric shapes in both bunkering and fairway lines. Distinctive features such as the fabled “Church Pew” bunkers make for a unique look where grass-faced bunkers and native grasses give the course an open meadow feel with occasional clusters of trees. Large greens create difficult putting opportunities.

The Preserve

With a strong emphasis on beautiful landscaping based upon a backbone of dense palm plantings, this user-friendly course plays off a more modern design. Sculpted bunkering punctuates wide fairways leading to greens complexes where perimeter mounding feeds into the putting surfaces with modern conviction. Vivid landscaping with abundance of flowering shrubs and ground covers make a dominant image on this course. Palm trees add a welcome relief from the sun.

Double Pin

This collection of 18 par 3 holes incorporates a unique and distinct feature; two pins at each green. Greens are designed to offer two options; one easier and more assessable location and one much more difficult. An arboretum style landscape

Stone Quarry

As a tribute to the many fine courses of Pete Dye, this course showcases all the wild-ride features associated with his designs. Railroad tie sleepers, abrupt mounds, and moguls, long sandy waste bunkers, devilish sometimes small greens and rail-road car bridges all create a distinct look. These features are proven all the more dramatic as the course snakes through ancient volcanic quarry’s supported by steep rock walls and timbers. The dramatic landscape features remnants of days past including coal cars, railroad tracks, and abandoned mining equipment. The course is rather “sporty” in nature, demanding shot making over brute strength and provides a welcoming option to many of today’s long courses.

Shadow Dunes

Bringing sand to the city, this course offers a unique environment of towering sand dunes and native vegetation found along the vast beaches of Hainan Island. Not quite a day at the beach, this course features large undulating contours that feed into some of the largest greens at the resort. These wild green surfaces will leave monstrous putts of prodigious length at times. Not a course to be overpowered by length, the player’s short game will require pin-point accuracy. Being somewhat short at 6600 yards from the tips and par 70, this course features intimate green to tee connections and will be exceptionally walkable, making for a quick round.
