Sample Itinerary (New)
Day 1:
Arrive Glasgow or Edinburgh, Scotland. Drive to St Andrews and check into your hotel that has been arranged for you according to the class of hotel service requested (the request for ballot entry to play St Andrews has been arranged by the hotel). The rest of the day is yours to enjoy as you deem fit, a suggestion may be to tour the quaint town of St Andrews, visit the beach or perhaps visit the St Andrews Golf Museum. Overnight at your golf vacation hotel.
Day 2:
Assuming success in the ballot, you will play the famous St Andrews Old Course. Regarded as the birthplace of golf, this historic test has hosted numerous British Opens, with such winners as Nicklaus, Palmer and Woods. Although the course contains wide fairways and has little rough, the winds can create a demanding game. Home of numerous British Opens, this course will be a most memorable experience. Non-golfers may wish to continue to explore St Andrews or visit the beach. Overnight at your golf vacation hotel.
Day 3:
Play today will be arranged at the St Andrews Jubilee course. This extremely challenging course is longer and considerable narrower than the Old, and considered more difficult. The greens are small, and a 2 putt is an achievement. The course also contains more devastating rough and is more affected by the ocean wind. A true test of golf. Non-golfers may wish to visit Glamis Castle. Overnight at your golf vacation hotel.
Day 4:
Carnoustie awaits all challengers today. Considered the most difficult of all British Open courses, this historic course has recognized many past British Open winners, including Ben Hogan, Tom Watson and Gary Player. This difficult course has hosted several British Opens over the years. The length and severely undulating greens has proven to be a stern golf challenge. After golf, drive to the lovely seaside town of Troon and check into the hotel according to the class of accommodations chosen. Non-golfers may wish to tour the quaint town of Troon, visit the beach or perhaps visit the historic castles nearby. Overnight at your golf vacation hotel.
Day 5:
Golf has been arranged for you at Royal Troon. A host of several British Opens, this stern test of golf has recognized previous winners including Arnold Palmer, Gene Sarazen and Walter Hagan. Founded in 1878, this Scotland golf course contains the infamous “Postage Stamp” hole measuring a mere 123 yards, but requiring a wedge to a 3-iron depending on the wind. Non-golfers may wish to drive Burns Heritage Trail. Overnight at your golf vacation hotel.
Day 6:
Old Prestwick golf course awaits all challengers today. Considered the most historic of all British Open courses, this course held the first 12 British Opens, with the last in 1872. Famous for the Cardinal bunker that stretches the width of the 3rd fairway, this course is extremely difficult due to the tremendous amount of controversial blind shots and extremely deep rough. Non-golfers may wish to visit the Isle of Arran. Overnight at your golf vacation hotel.
Day 7:
This afternoon’s game will be played at Western Gailes. This course has provided many a test for golfers attempting to qualify for the British Open when Royal Troon is chosen as the host. Many seasoned golfers believe that this course is every bit a measure in comparison to its neighbor. Giant seaside dunes are a staple of this course, and deep, thick rough is especially demanding. This course is as challenging as any in western Scotland, and the greens are renowned as fast but true. The layout is hilly in nature, and the narrow fairways are as extremely challenging. Non-golfers may wish to visit the historic town of Ayr. Upon completion of your round of golf, leave for the airport or extend your trip with additional golf arranged by our staff.
